Upcoming CE Webinar Designed to Help Mental Health Professionals Prevent Suicide
Dr. Lisa Firestone will host a Webinar on Tuesday, Sept. 25 from 4:00-5:30 p.m. (Pacific Time) entitled Suicide: What Every Mental Health Professional Needs to Know.
Although one in five clinical psychologists loses a client to suicide in the course of his or her clinical career, only 48 percent of all graduate programs in clinical psychology offer any formal training in assessing suicide risk and the treatment of suicidal patients. In this Webinar, Dr. Firestone, coauthor of the Firestone Assessment of Self-Destructive Thoughts™ and Firestone Assessment of Suicide Intent™ (FAST™/FASI™), provides an in-depth review of the dynamics of suicide risk. The most recent research on assessment, crisis management, and treatment will be presented.
Learning objectives include being able to (a) list the psychiatric, psychological, and social risk factors associated with suicide; (b) identify negative thought patterns and attitudes that influence clients’ self-destructive and suicidal behavior; and (c) select assessments, crisis interventions, and case management strategies for suicidal patients.
Three (3) CE credits will be offered to mental health professionals who complete the Webinar through PsychoEducational Resources, Inc. (PER). Appropriate for beginner, intermediate, and advanced level practitioners, the Webinar costs $35. Get CE details at http://www.psychalive.org/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/CE-Statement.pdf.
