Supplemental Product Resources

The TEC is a standardized computer-administered measure of two fundamental aspects of executive control processes: working memory and inhibitory control.

Features and benefits

  • The first standardized integration of two novel neuroscience methods: an n-back paradigm that parametrically increases working memory load and a go/no-go task to manipulate inhibitory control demand.
  • Calculates multiple norm-referenced measures of accuracy, response time, and response time variability as working memory load increases in both inhibit and no inhibit conditions.

Test structure

  • Provides four sequential tasks for 5- to 7-year-old children and six tasks for children and adolescents ages 8-18 years. Each task consists of on-screen instructions, a set of practice trials with feedback, and 100 timed-interval stimuli that require responses.
  • Includes three equivalent forms and two research forms.
  • Standardized regression-based change scores facilitate interpretation of change between performance on tasks and change in performance over time.

Technical information

  • Form 1 reliability coefficients ranged from .75 to .98 for factor scores and from .68 to .99 for summary scores.
  • Convergent evidence for validity of the TEC is based on correlations with the BRIEF—, the CPRS-R:L, and the CBCL/6-18, among others.
  • Validity also was investigated within several clinical samples, including children and adolescents with ADHD, mild traumatic brain injury, learning disabilities, and fragile X syndrome.

Multiple reports available

  • The Score Report displays scores and profiles for a single administration.
  • The Client Report provides interpretive statements, scores, and profiles for a single administration.
  • The Protocol Summary Report summarizes change over time when the instrument is administered more than once to the same examinee.
  • New! Ideal for school and clinical psychologists, the Interpretive Report contains fewer and easier-to-understand interpretations than the Client Report, a summary paragraph appropriate for integration into other reports, and targeted treatment recommendations. See below for more details.

Note: The unlimited-use TEC software has been upgraded to produce an additional report (the Interpretive Report). All prior purchasers, including those who purchased the Counter Serial Number version, will automatically receive the upgraded version. If you have any questions, contact our Customer Support Department at 1.800.331.8378. For valid administration, the TEC should not be installed on a network of any kind. The TEC is not supported on Windows 8 and will not function properly on this operating system.
