Measure cognition in individuals diagnosed with schizophrenia and related disorders using tests selected by experts. The MCCB was developed to aid research toward creating medication effective for improving cognition in schizophrenia. Features and benefits - A standardized battery. The MCCB consists of 10 individually administered tests that measure cognitive performance in seven domains: speed of processing, attention/vigilance, working memory, verbal learning, visual learning, reasoning and problem solving, and social cognition.
- Backed by the NIH, NIMH, FDA, and field experts. The MCCB is the result of a unique broad-based consensus process that included the academic community, the National Institutes of Health, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, and the pharmaceutical industry.
- Suitable for multiple purposes. Intended to provide a relatively brief evaluation of key cognitive domains that are relevant to schizophrenia and related disorders, the battery is appropriate for use as an outcome measure for clinical trials of cognition-enhancing drugs, when studying cognitive remediation, to measure cognitive change, and as a cognitive reference point for non-intervention studies of schizophrenia and other severe psychiatric disorders.
- Available in foreign languages. Translations of the MCCB into Chinese, German, Hindi, Russian, Spanish for Spain, Spanish for Central and South America, Hebrew, Italian, Japanese, Croatian, Romanian, Marathi, Kannada, Telegu, and Tamil are available.
Test structure - Each of the 10 tests in the MCCB should be individually administered. Testing can usually be completed in one 1- to 1½-hour session.
- The MCCB Administrator’s Form is used to record results for one respondent. For two tests, a separate booklet or form is attached to the MCCB Administrator’s Form. For three tests, the respondent marks in the MCCB Respondent’s Booklet. For one test, the responses are made using a computer program.
- The MCCB Kit includes materials for 25 administrations of the entire battery. The MCCB Retest Packet includes the materials needed for 25 additional administrations. Alternate forms are also available.
Technical information Normative data for the battery allow for multiple demographic corrections. Both T scores and percentiles are available. As a standardized battery with conorming of 10 component tests, the MCCB exhibits high test-retest reliability and has high utility as a repeated measure. The MCCB has a demonstrated relationship to functional outcome and high tolerability by respondents. Software included in kit The MCCB Scoring Program allows entry of primary raw scores and provides the corresponding T scores and percentiles and a graphic profile of the T scores for each of the seven cognitive domains. The scoring program also enables you to enter data into statistical programs for group analyses.
