Independently owned and operated, PAR, also known as Psychological Assessment Resources, was founded in 1978 by R. Bob Smith III, PhD and his wife Cathy to fill a void in the development and distribution of psychological assessment instruments. Over the years, the company has earned a reputation for providing Customers with superior quality assessment instruments and unrivaled Customer Service. Today PAR publishes psychological assessment instruments, software, books and other related materials in the following areas: personality/counseling, neuropsychological assessment, forensics, achievement/development/learning, intellectual/ability/cognitive, behavior/health, and career development/business.

In 1984, PAR acquired the publishing rights to the Self-Directed Search® (SDS®), an innovative and successful career inventory used by millions of people worldwide. The SDS was recently featured on ABC’s Good Morning America, with each host taking the inventory online and working in his or her projected field for a day.

In 2003, PAR published the Neuropsychological Assessment Battery® (NAB®). Developed over more than 7 years and funded in part by grants from the National Institute of Mental Health, the NAB provides a comprehensive neuropsychological assessment that takes less than 4 hours to complete. In his 2006 review of the NAB in Applied Neuropsychology, D.E. Hartman wrote, “The developers of the NAB are to be congratulated for their audacious and successful contribution to neuropsychological assessment.”

In 2009, PAR was recognized by the Principal Financial Group as one of the 10 Best Companies for Employee Financial Security in the U.S. PAR also was the recipient of the United Way's Spirit Award in 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, and 2010.

In addition to its commitment to publish innovative products and deliver unparalleled Customer Service, PAR donates a portion of company profits to those in need, and encourages its staff to donate time and/or other resources for the purpose of helping others.
